Rally to Stop Line 3

  • 199 Main Street Senator Leahy's Office Burlington, VT, 05401 United States (map)

Join us to say No to Enbridge Line 3 tar sands; hear from local organizers who have traveled to the frontlines to resist Line 3; and learn more about how to get involved in the Line 3 climate justice struggle!Because of the closely divided Senate, we call upon Senators Leahy and Sanders to publicly* demand that the Biden Administration revoke approval of Enbridge Line 3;
* refuse to support any infrastructure or climate change–related bills until Enbridge Line 3 is permanently stopped;
* and request the immediately remove all federal “law enforcement” agencies currently occupying indigenous lands on behalf of Enbridge and its profit-hungry investors like TD Bank.More about Line 3: https://www.stopline3.org/Bring signs, banners—we will have some placard making materials too. Spread the word!Our climate emergency worsens each day. Scientists have just declared that 2021 brought North America the hottest June on record. More heat waves, draughts, wildfires, and die-offs await.So why does the Biden White House continue to promote fossil fuel expansion by issuing hundreds of drilling permits and backing the disastrous Enbridge Line 3 Tar Sands pipeline expansion, which is expected to add 193 million tons of CO2 to the atmosphere each year?And why is the federal government violating indigenous treaty rights to hasten the destruction of the planet while scarring the soil and poisoning the water of those who live and work there now?We stand in solidarity with indigenous and other water protectors currently resisting Enbridge Line 3 while demanding that our Senators use the power that they have in a divided Senate to stop any infrastructure bill that claims to address the climate crisis. Organized by Champlain Valley DSA ecosocialist working group, Upper Valley Affinity Group, and others (list in formation)
