Movie Night: Union Time

These times are difficult, isolating, and exhausting. Sometimes we just need a break and some comrades to enjoy it with, right?

In light of that, CVDSA invites you to join us for a virtual movie night! We will be streaming the documentary Union Time on our YouTube channel (help us out and hit Subscribe), followed by a brief discussion afterwards over Zoom (details given out day of).

Optionally, you can read this chapter from Jane McAlevey’s fantastic book, “No Shortcuts,” to get a deeper understanding of the organizing work that was done at Smithfield Foods.

Below is a description of Union Time:

Union Time tells the story of the UFCW’s 16-year long fight to organize Smithfield Foods’ pork processing plant in Tar Heel, North Carolina. The victory at the world’s largest slaughterhouse brought improved working conditions to 5,000 workers, and is one of the most significant wins for organized labor in the 21st century.
